Sun still shines in Cyprus

I hear the weather isn't too good in England (not sure about other parts of the world!) so I thought I would post you some pictures of Cyprus at the moment to hopefully cheer everyone up. The purple flowers on the right are an invasive plant but a very pretty one covering everything here. I picked one to paint it and it even bloomed a few more times in the water I had put it in to keep it alive while I drew it. Threw it away quickly before it took over the studio.

Have been busy here, we are getting ready for our first exhibition. It will be over the Christmas period and held here at the college. We have contacted the local press and have to distribute posters and invites pretty soon. It seems to have come around very quickly. I expect the studio will get frenetic with lots of last mintue work!

It is good to see all the different styles of work taking form and everyone is doing something quite different from each other. We have carving, wood construction, and lots of different styles of painting, from still life to fantasy, to textured resin and plaster work. I'm looking forward to seeing it all displayed together and will hopefully be able to post some pictures of it all.

Exhibition starts on the 14th so watch this space. Soon be time to start thinking about next terms work...

Life carries on as normal here in Lemba. Communal living is always a challenge when you are used to your own space, but no one has killed anyone yet! You unblock drains with stripped Bamboo and no one worries how many extension cables are plugged into each other (I think three is the record at the moment). When it rains you put a bucket under the drip (or under the cascade if it's raining heavily!) and the lizards are now allowed to stay in your room because they eat the unsuspecting bugs. The post man comes when there is enough post to make his trip worthwhile, and you need earplugs to keep out the noise of all the dogs barking in the middle of the night.

Having said all that, the sunset is impressive every night as it goes down over the Mediterranean, you can still swim in the sea in the middle of November and Dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) and Baklava (greek gooey cake type thing) are just the best! Talking of baklava, think it may be time for some more....
